Not long ago the stunning debut by England's David Viner was posted here and I'm sure it was enjoyed by many. Now I present to you "This boy don't care." An incredibly excellent follow up by a shamefully ignored musician.

I'm sure he's not sitting around like a slouch. Rumor has it that he's leaving an international trail of broken hearts behind him. I think he's probably drunk with whisky on his trousers somewhere in the world right now.

I hope he makes a new record soon.

This particular recording isn't the highest quality, but it's free and being a complainer might get you a fat lip.

My wife and I were the winners of a local radio contest which allowed us to attend this history making show from the White Stripes. I'm not a math guy, but I heard there were only about 250 people there. It was tight, sweaty, smelly, and really wet.

Anyway, this recording was ripped from the stream. Enjoy it.

Lullaby Baxter Trio

This is definitely in my top most beautiful albums of all time list. It's long out of print and as far as I know, mostly unknown. Earlier this year Lullaby Baxter released her second album "Garden Cities of Tomorrow" to acclaim and for a minute it was all over the blogosphere for download.
Hopefully most of you actually went out and purchased a copy of that, but if you weren't in the know then, you'll certainly track Ms. Baxter's movements after hearing "Capable Egg."
It's actually funny that she didn't set out to be a performer. The following text comes from http://www.boompa.ca/

Montreal, 1997. Lullaby Baxter is waiting tables at Jello Bar. Coaxed on stage for an impromptu number, she sings Billie Holiday's signature song "Lover Man (Oh, Where Can You Be?)". This, her first public performance since grade school, brings down the house. She buys a green guitar and learns "Leaving On A Jet Plane". Someone at the laundromat says, "Anyway, try writing songs." So, she and friend Lutwidge Sedgwick write songs. For example, "The Anyway Song". Before long Lullaby Baxter is putting on shows around town. Bewitched studio owner Howard Bilerman runs backstage and offers to record a demo free of charge. Baxter's jazz-singer sister Anna-Lisa meets with Atlantic Records staff producer Yves Beauvais (Madeline Peyroux, Olu Dara) and hands over said demo. Beauvais flies to Montreal, catches Baxter's show, and offers her a recording contract on the spot. Baxter flies to San Francisco and records her debut with Tom Waits's session players Oranj Symphonette. Atlantic Records releases Baxter's debut album, Capable Egg, in 2000. Critics are effervescent. There is a far-flung tour, all manner of interviews, and money for plush new towels. When the clamour winds down, Baxter scratches her head and says, "J'ai vu tomber tant de choses que j'avais crues éternelles" (I have seen the fall of so many things that I had thought eternal). Time to disappear. Time to meet a painter (Jean-Pierre Morin) and bear a son (Lorenzo Wolfgang). Time to mother. Time to take the towels out of the dryer. Time to hum. Time to think about a new album. Time to write a 111-page manifesto entitled Sing Songs for People."

Brendan Benson

I'll admit, Brendan Benson's sugary sweet approach to 1970's California pop wasn't immediately my thing. I had only heard of him because of his connection to a certain Detroit duo. I was underwhelmed when I heard this album so I put it on the back burner for the rest of the year. Then the Raconteurs album came out and I grew an appreciation for the stark contrast between him and Jack White. I decided to dust off this album while I was laying around doing some daydreamin' and it was as if I had "gotten it!"

Benson is not trying to be some Detroit guitar God. No, he's perfectly content keeping it calm and relaxing. His lyrics are really smart and that's always a plus.

Your girl will enjoy this when it's Sunday and she's writing poetry in her room about you. Douche.

Soledad Brothers

The Soledad Brothers are best known for their association with everyone's favorite red and white wearing guitar virtuoso, Jack White. I'm sure they don't mind.

The first ever Oh, robot mix tape party!

Today's offering was a lot of fun for me to make. First, I was really hammered and that always makes for an exciting night. Second, I got to mess around on my turntables which is a treat indeed.

Hello, end of August.

It's been a while since I've posted here and since I care about my readers I figure I'll tell you there's been such a delay.

Mostly, I've been waiting out this nasty case of blogger's disease. Peanut over at Peanut's Playground told me to safeguard myself, but like a fool I ignored the advice and fell victim to caring if people left me comments.

It made me sad that so many dowloaders forget to say thanks.
I say "forget" because I'd like to give so many the benefit of the doubt.
That being said, here are a few albums that are completely enjoyable if you are in the right mode.

This album was delivered to the world by a band that was the awesomest at what they did in that timeframe. Unfortunately in recent years they aren't as important. Maybe it's because I'm older and I expect much more?

Bellevue - Demo recordings

Next up are the demo recordings of a band named Bellevue. They have since switched out a few members and whittled themselves away into a three piece. They are now called Des Roar. (check earlier post for link)

It's clear that the songwriter and lead singer, Ben Wolcott, has had a few sleepless nights in bed listening to headphones blaring The Strokes fronted by a two headed Lou Reed/Brian Wilson monster hell bent on destroying the fucking guitar.

A rad band.
