Somewhere on this blog I posted another Mr. Airplane Man record, Moanin'. I like that one more than this one, but I am mostly alone on that decision. According to the fans, this album is the keeper. However, just as Moanin' does, C'mon DJ instantly transports you to a bar somewhere in a real rough and tumble town. A bar where the pinball machine is always occupied by a greased up, leather wearing, dude that keeps his two beers on the glass top. He'll knife you if you get too close.

We all know she put out a duets album with the gravel voiced Mark Lanegan. We all know she has a really pretty voice and an ability to write perfect pop songs. We all know she's Scottish.

In 1999, before Colin Meloy fronted the Decemberists, he and a few Montana friends were making music under the name Tarkio. The sound is pretty different from his recent material, leaning toward a more alt-country sound. That's not to say that "I guess I was hoping for something more" is a bad record. In fact, it's just the opposite. The hyper-litarism was just beginning to form and you could tell that his time spent going to school in Oregon made quite an impression on the young man from Misoula.

I met the old bass player for Johnny Cash. He was inducted into the hall of fame that night. He wore cool wallabees and dark jeans. He was over 70 years old.
I shook his hand and wondered if I'd break it beacuse it was so frail.
