Sure, he ain't got the same swagger... White was blues and Segall is surf, but shit... the snarl is there in a big way and since nobody has even come close to floating the S.S. Dirty Carl in a bit, Ty does it masterfully.

Do yourself a favor... after hearing this, go out and PURCHASE everything he's made. Jack is listening undoubtedly.

The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights - Review.

Rating: 4 out of 5 peppermint candies.

So, tonight I watched the new White Stripes movie, Under Great White Northern Lights, and all I can say is that I was left feeling a little cold and unfulfilled. That isn't to say that it's a bad film by any means. In fact, it's just the opposite. In 92 minutes director Emmet Malloy manages to capture tons of beautiful scenery and dozens of candid moments between the supposed siblings that once shared a house as husband and wife. For the uninitiated this may be a bit too ramshackle and for the die hard fan it may make you feel as though you've waiting too long for too little. (I really did enjoy it... promise.)

So the latest news about Jack White isn't that the White Stripes will be playing again. Unfortunately, it isn't that the dreadful Dead Weather has disbanded. It's not about his collaboration with some R&B singer either.

Actually, depending on how you look at it, the news that he's going to produce old school and still kicking, Rockabilly gal, Wanda Jackson might be a good thing. I say might because some may be a bit skeptical as whether or not he can top his work on Van Lear Rose. This isn't to say that Wanda Jackson isn't incredible. She's as true as a pistol whip. It's nice to see JW is working with someone who can bring out the best in him.

As most of my readers know, he has been really freaking me out for a while now, but once again I'm going to have faith. I also hear that he trying to produce a Rolling Stones record...

I'm still hoping that him and Greg cartwright sit down for coffee someday soon.

Anyway kittens, here's a nice little Wanda Jackson album to get you acquainted with the woman who most people refer to as "The Queen of Rockabilly." She dated Elvis. I don't know why that's weird right now.

I've seen these guys live a bunch of times and the feeling I got from all the shows was one of awesomeness. I wasn't in attendance for this one though. Aw shucks! Anyway, this show is pretty good except for some clicks and pops from the vinyl, but I'm sure you'll get past that pretty quickly.

The White Stripes and Conan O' Brien

The final Late Night with Conan O' Brien just ended about three seconds ago. I pretty much dislike all late night shows because I'm uncaring as to what celebrities are up to or what movie they're promoting, but Conan was different. Over the past sixteen or so years that crazy ass red haired man has brought a lot of laughter into our homes. I'm sad to see him go, but equally happy to see that he's just getting a new time slot.

Okay, now that I got the mushy parts out of the way...

What the hell was up with Jack and Meg? Is she pregnant? I can't believe I'm actually going to type this, but...

I was really underwhelmed.

With so much anticipation I waited to see the mighty White Stripes unleash some new material or at least perform a rollicking version of the world's greatest song Let's shake hands...

Sadly they did a less than spirited version of I can tell that we are going to be friends that, in all honesty, left me scratching my head. It was almost as painful as hearing Joss Stone's godawful version of Fell in Love with a girl or the acoustic version of said song that Jack played in Japan a few years back where it seemed he was covering the Joss Stone version himself. Aye...



It's been said that Conan asked them to play what they did and their performance was sad and chock full of emotion...I didn't see that while I lay on the floor like an excited child in front of the TV. I still want them to release another record.

Seeing them standing side by side was nice. More please.

I was never crazy about this band and although I got this record when it was released, it didn't get any real rotation at my pad. I guess it was because when this came out I was in that kind of mode where you only want to listen to loud, frantic rock and roll with a beer in one hand and a breast in the other. Tonight however, I'm feeling a little mellower and in my left hand I hold only a rum and coke. I failed to mention my right hand because it's empty. How sad is that? No breast?

Anyway, this record is actually really good for those times when you need a little of that AM radio type of rock. You know the kind...the kind that makes you want to be witty and play pool as opposed to the stuff that makes you want to smash bottles and fight some guy in the restroom because you thought he was trying to sneak a look at your pecker.

If I was even the remotest bit confusing here, it's a good, mellow rock and roll record for doing whatever it is you do when you're not fucking and fighting. To boil it down even further I'd like for you to picture The Monkees...with fuzz. To really peel the skin off, this record is 60's radio hour all the way. Sometimes you'll shake your head, but most of the time you'll feel the vibes like you were cruising down some ocean highway with a little sexy vixen in the passenger seat. This also works if you're a lesbian. I just want you to feel loved or at least get yours, you know?

Sure, Jack White isn't the mysterious rock and roll bad ass he once was, but you're a prick liar if you tell me you didn't think he was the cat's meow a few years back before he went and released Meg's sex tape...just kidding. I mean, before his new wife stabbed Meg...me kidding again. Hey, where's Meg? Megan? Hellooooooo? Megbot?

Anyway, this live show was rad and the vinyl version is next to impossible to get if you're not rolling in dough and coincidentally are registered with eBay.

It's a long show so I had to break it up into two separate files. Don't bitch about it. Just rock!

...got together and made an overproduced song that will be fawned over by millions. To me however, this is the duet that made me swoon.

Separated at birth? Jack White & Gavin Degraw

Gavin De Graw & Jack White look a lot alike. While I'm not a fan of DeGraw's music, I won't take away from the fact that he is a talented musician who basically OWNS the piano when he plays it.

Jack White, who the Robot household is a huge fan of, pretty much OWNS whatever instrument he grabs.
I was watching the worst late night talk show ever the other night (Carson Daly) ans happened to catch DeGraw's performance. I know, I must live under a rock because this guy is Billboard top ten all the way...On second thought, Carson Daly isn't the worst show. It's actually getting better these days. It just feels rushed.

A review of The Raconteurs new album.

I found out about this record three days before the release date and became super pumped! Once I heard it though, I felt fooled. I listened to it about 20 more times and each time I found things I liked, but at the same time I was finding stuff that I didn’t.

The title track caused instant discomfort. I stood tough and let the song play through. By the end of the album I started to think about the individual members of the band. Where are the Greenhornes anyway?

I won’t say I hate this record. No…it’s too soon.
For now I’ll give it a fair shake for it to sink in, but upon first listen I wasn’t taken.

Not like I was when I heard DeStijl or If we can’t trust the Doctors.

I think Jack White’s a genius though. I’ll pretty much buy what he’s sellin’ all the time.

I played this for my wife and she asked me to stop. That never happens.

UPDATE: Since the day of its release I have listened to this record six times. It is now June 14th. 2008. If it wasn't for "Many shades of black" this album would have disappointed me completely. Here's the video to a close to perfect little pop gem...

My wife and I were the winners of a local radio contest which allowed us to attend this history making show from the White Stripes. I'm not a math guy, but I heard there were only about 250 people there. It was tight, sweaty, smelly, and really wet.

The overwhelmingly positive response inspired him to cover the entire "White Blood Cells" record.
